ALL EYES ON YOU
No one is going to know your individual eye shape better than you. That said, we have a few ideas for new looks to try on some common eye shapes, including round, hooded, deep-set and almond eyes.
DOUBLE DARE LINER
HOW TO DO LIQUID LINER ON DEEP-SET EYES
Deep-set eyes have a more prominent brow bone and eyelid crease, often with partially obscured upper lids.
Like with hooded eyes, the trick to doing eyeliner on deep-set eyes is to keep as much lid space free as possible by staying close to the lash line and extending the liner straight out toward the temples.
To add an extra edge, mirror the upper wing on the lower lash line.
Rather than drawing a line that’s angled up, focus on keeping the liner more level with the eye.
STILETTO LINER
HOW TO DO LIQUID LINER ON ROUND EYES
Round eyes have a dramatic lash line curvature with a high apex. To elongate the eye and bring attention to the outer corners, draw a long, extended wing with a slight upward angle. For this look, the point of your wing should be approximately level with the apex of your upper lash line.
For an ultra-fierce, stiletto-like line, take your liner beyond the inner corner into a point. From that point, line the inner third of your lower lash line and taper it below your pupil.
FISHTAIL LINER
HOW TO DO LIQUID LINER ON HOODED EYES
Hooded eyes have skin from the brow bone that extends over the upper eyelid. Like with deep-set eyes, you also want to keep your liner ultra-close to the lash line to avoid losing your liner in the crease.
Your lower lash line is a great place to add liner for an experimental, editorial, or high impact look. For this look, create a straightish line along your lower lashes but leave a blank space in the center.
DIGI-GRAPHIC LINER
HOW TO DO LIQUID LINER ON ALMOND EYES
Almond eyes mimic the shape of, you guessed it: an almond. Their width is greater than their height and often have more “lifted” outer corners (you may also know this as “positive canthal tilt” from TikTok).
To play up the outer corners of the eyes while adding edge, extend your liner with an upward angle until you reach the halfway point between your lash line and eyebrow. Then, starting from the end of that wing, draw an arc inward.
Tip: Mirror the curvature of your lash line with the liner arc. Taper this line off once it’s parallel/above the pupil.
YOUR LINER, YOUR RULES
Have a combination of multiple eye shapes [i.e. deep-set/almond, hooded/round, etc] or variation between your eyes? Anatomy is complex and asymmetry is normal. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to eyeliner. Give yourself permission to play with different styles and leave space to do something a little different on each eye.
